Licensed Real Estate Broker

I started working for Franklin Hallock, who worked for Jeanne Garr and then she gave him the office and he started Hallock Real Estate. One day I came into the office and he was “hen pecking”…..I said I would type his appraisal for him. That was the beginning. A fellow came in with a deposit check for a property Franklin had sold him. Of course I told him there was a better property as Jack and I had looked at every piece of vacant land on Shelter Island. Did you hear Franklin when he came back to the office!!!!! and so it began!!!!!!!!. Then Anne DeStefano came aboard, Franklin walked out the door one day and said, I am retiring, so you two had better get your broker’s licenses!!! That was forty years ago, hard to believe. There have been wonderful sales and rentals that I have handled and in doing these deals, I have met some absolutely wonderful people and we have become very good friends, who are sending their families into the office to buy sell, or rent. I have a wonderful staff as you can see and Donna Molin is my right arm, she has been with me for over twenty years, so I guess I am there to stay for a bit longer.

Louise has been an agent with our office for over 18 years. “Working with a distinguished Shelter Island broker has led me to a successful real estate career”. Louise has lived on Shelter Island for over 40 years. Her background and knowledge of houses began as a child where her father was a custom builder. She is now married to a custom builder and helps her husband manage his construction company. Having a knowledge and background of construction, permit processes and zoning regulation is an extremely valuable tool in the real estate business. Louise looks forward to the off season when she can spend time on the quiet beaches and kayaking the creeks and inlets. “Shelter Island is such a hidden gem and the fall is the best time to enjoy the scenic beauty of this special place.”

My wife and I came to Shelter Island from New Jersey by way of Southampton 58 years ago. This move was planned as a stepping stone in life for this young couple. It did not take long on this beautiful island for us to realize that this step we took was the place we will raise our children and be our final step. For the next 50 years I was the Head Golf Professional at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club here on the Island. For 20 of those years my wife, Anne, worked right here in this real estate office. In those 58 years, my family have been active in all things on the Island including 15 years on the School Board. When I retired, I started selling real estate. I ran a losing race for town Supervisor of Shelter Island. Teaching golf, writing for the local paper, running trivia contests and coaching the school’s varsity golf team is now how I fill my days. So, If you want to talk to someone that knows about this Island, we would love to meet you. If you are coming from the south side, no need to waste time, stop by the first real estate office on the Island.

Paul Mobius
Associate Broker

I started in the Real Estate business in 1987. That is 30 years at the Georgiana B. Ketcham Real Estate office on Shelter Island, listing, selling, renting and writing Broker’s Price Opinions. I up-graded from sales associate to Associate Broker quite a few years ago so I no longer have to submit to Continuing Education courses.

I have been living on Shelter Island from 1962 (56 years). So I know every nook and cranny, even those houses hidden away down long dirt roads. I have two sons (48 & 47) who grew up here and attended the Shelter Island School from K through 12. Both now have Master’s degrees and are working in the area. My wife, a registered nurse is retired after working for Eastern Long Island Hospital and the local doctors for over 55 years. I have enjoyed my time in Real Estate. Loved checking out new and old homes and have made many new friends along the way.

About Us

Seventy years ago Jeanne Garr bought the Artemus Ward Estate from Harvard University. Sixty Years ago we bought our property on Midway Road. Fifty years ago we moved to Shelter Island with four kids, two dogs, a cat and a boat. Forty years ago I started selling real estate at Jean Garr's office. I am now the oldest living real estate broker on Shelter Island, come see me and I will fill in all the blanks for you, lots to tell and lots to sell!!!!! Ironically when we first arrived on SI, Jack decided to build a spec house. After touring the island everywhere, I mean "everywhere" we decided definitely have to buy a building lot in Shorewood. Of course met up with Jeanne Garr at this office. Yes she would sell us a lot, but not in Shorewood, as she had a waiting list of buyers. She sold one lot a year when her tax bill came to pay that bill!!!!!!! Such a great business woman, so she showed us a lot on Burns Road across from the Presbyterian Manse and next to Klen's International Airport, the rest is history and here I am back in the same office we first set foot in to buy property, only now 45 years later selling it.!!!!!!! Stop buy anytime. There is much, much more to this story!!!!!
